Since the actual Pikes Peak Ocean-to-Ocean Highway exits more in history then in actual pavement, this drive is more of a tribute to the historic roadway rather than attempt to follow it. Plus, driving Italian cars on a roadway dubbed “The Appian way of America” seems very fitting.
In this early stage of planning, choosing various points of interest to visit takes precedence over the actual route. The events we plan to attend require being in set locations on specific days. Eventually when all points of interest and events are established a more accurate driving route will be established.
We will be avoiding interstate highways and the congestion of big cities. This road-trip is not only about traveling West but back in time as well. We’ll drive the “Blue Highways” and backroads with Charlie and John Steinbeck in our thoughts.
